borealgrove: (Saga'll touch ur)

I've completely let the ball drop on blogging and writing in the past week or two: part of it is due to craziness at work (new people at work that I have to train, a meeting that I nearly forgot--oops, and a new system that I have to figure out on behalf of my office before it goes live in less than two weeks), and the other part is due to craziness at home (several appointments, general exhaustion from work, and a ton of spring cleaning).

Phew.

It's only this weekend that I've really found the time and motivation to write again, and I started it off yesterday by brainstorming a few prompt ideas for the upcoming [community profile] sshg_smut 2017 Fest, which was a hell of a lot of fun last year. Today I've been focusing on the next chapter of FS, in which I'd hit a bit of a scene roadblock a week or so ago. I tackled it this morning, and have been chipping away at finishing that irksome scene for the past hour or two. With the HP Drizzle fest deadline also slowly approaching, I have been revisiting my notes for my prompt and thinking about how best to start the fic. I am very, very excited to write it -- it should be interesting. No idea how long it's going to be, though. I'm going to try not to ramble too much and miss the deadline lol!

I've promised my partner that sometime today I will be making a lavender chocolate tea cake, so that will interfere with my writing a little, but it will be worth it if it turns out to be as delicious as it sounds.

Currently making pancakes with Naturripe brand (Georgia grown) blueberries that... taste like apples???

I don't even

There are children out there likely growing up eating these thinking that that's how real blueberries taste. Or that they taste unremarkable because there's a fruit already out there that does that flavour better. I like apple, so I don't have to force myself to eat these "blueberries", but if I'm buying blueberries, I kind of expect that they'll taste like blueberries. I just. What the shit. I'm just gonna breathe, have some patience, and wait for the delicious yearly downpour of (actual) blueberries from BC to hit the shelves.

I try not to buy fruit out of season. I always end up disappointed! Blueberries will be a little late this year, most likely, as BC has a very cold and rainy spring so everything is a couple weeks behind. Strawberries are finally here at least... so tasty! Berries have got to be one of my favourite things about summer. And peaches from the Okanagan. BC is so blessed with tasty fruit!!

How did your cake turn out?

I solve that urge by doing all my veggie/fruit shopping at locals farms. Actually, I might as well admit to being a total hipster local food snob here; I buy barely anything from a grocery store. Veggies/fruit come from local farmers, meat from a ethical butcher, cured/smoked meat from a charcuterie, bread from a baker, and olive oil and cheese from a local deli. Yes, it's expensive. But it all tastes so damn good. Definitely no apple tasting blueberries :P

So basically I am just as picky, it's just about where my food comes from instead of what type of food it is :P I LOVE fruit. At least local fruit. Just... shove it in my mouth. I adore strawberries. Raspberries too (raspberries are probably my favourite). I ate local strawberries and cherries for a snack today ^_^ The only fruit I'm sort of meh on is bananas. Unless they're turned into cake/bread, of course :P

The only foods I don't like are sausages and gravy (separately or together). So basically... no poutine. I will eat (a very specific type of locally made, completely hipster european style) hot dogs, and I also eat (locally made, completely hipster) salami/pepperoni... but regular sausages. Breakfast sausages? Giant UGH.

Any luck with the cake?

Honestly, container gardening is pretty easy! You should definitely give it a go when you can :)

Yes, finally someone else who doesn't like poutine! I feel anti-Canadian whenever I say that (also don't like hockey or Tim Hortons... what sort of Canadian am I?!)

It's the texture of bananas that gets me too. I also like them dried and covered in dark chocolate!
I definitely have a texture thing with food--hence the tororo hatred, and also jello (blech). Most other things are okay :P

Did cake day arrive yet? Or should I say, cupcake day?
